Inclusive Design
Introduction
Sky’s purpose is to bring better content and innovation to all of our customers. This includes customers with disabilities, such as vision, hearing, cognitive and physical impairments, and people who are neurodiverse. We design to universal inclusive and accessibility principles from the very beginning and throughout the process, which ensures that experiences are inclusive for all.
All styles, components and patterns within Sky UI are built to Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) Level AA standards. Components are tested rigorously before they are added to the Design System. As long as implementation adheres to the usage guidelines, the components will comply with AA standards.
Automated vs Manual Testing
Automated accessibility testing is efficient for identifying common and repetitive issues quickly, saving time in large-scale projects. However, manual testing is essential for catching complex, context-specific issues that automated tools might miss, such as those involving user experience or nuanced design elements. Together, they ensure a comprehensive evaluation, balancing speed and accuracy in accessibility efforts.
Sky UI’s Accessibility Checklist
Sky UI’s Accessibility Checklist is designed to help designers make sure their designs are accessible and inclusive for all users. Set up as a Figma component, designers can easily add it to their file, review each item, and check them off as they’re completed. It should be used during design reviews to ensure every project meets Sky’s accessibility standards.
Additionally, Designers can find usage examples of the Accessibility Checklist, including the recommended handover notes for developers in the Figma Foundations file.
